Weekends in Darling Harbour have been full of festivals over the last few months as the Culture Beats program takes over, and the finale to the series is Buddha's Birthday Festival, which will take place on Saturday May 9 and Sunday May 10. Like most, it will be found at Tumbalong Park.

There's no prizes for guessing the inspiration for the event; it marks the birth of the founder of Buddhism, Shakyamuni Buddha (traditionally celebrated on the day of the full moon in May, which in 2015 is Monday May 4). In order to celebrate the occasion, there will be lots of Buddhist activities, including exhibitions, ceremonies, performances, arts and crafts, and vegetarian food stalls.



Like any Darling Harbour festival, Buddha's Birthday Festival is free. You can visit it any time between 9.00am to 5.00pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
