Saturday the 12th of September 2015 is the date of the 'first ever' Buckshot Film Festival at the historic Reardon Theatre, 35 Bank Street, (between the Whalebone Gallery and the Surf Shop) Port Fairy. Sessions are at 3pm and 7pm with tickets costing $10 for adults at both the 3pm and 7pm shows and $5 for kids 12 years and under. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking HERE or from The Artery (224 Timor St, Warrnambool VIC (03) 5562 1109) & Port Fairy Information Centre (Railway Pl & Bank Street, Port Fairy VIC (03) 5568 2682).

Of 170 international short films being submitted, 25 stand-out films have been selected for screening in the Open Category. It's going to be a fun unique night of entertainment with ethical Faire Ferments cider on sale and a Buck called Buckly as the MC.

The Buckshot Film Festival at Port Fairy is all about nurturing independent short film making in South Western Victoria. Wholly organised by enthusiastic local film makers and with financial or in-kind support from partners Port Fairy Film Society , Warrnambool's F Project Cinema and the Reardon Theatre, a forum for films by local, national and international film makers has come to life. All this didn't happen without some hard work behind the scenes by Buckheads James Russell, Emily Bissland, Gareth Colliton and Emma Charlton.

Buckshot is a geological feature of volcanic areas and are small gravel-like iron rocks. An apt name for the festival as Port Fairy and Warrnambool are a mere 25 minutes apart joined together by a volcanic crater (Tower Hill - now a wildlife reserve) at its half-way mark.

Be there for an entertaining evening at this exciting inaugural festival where the standard of filmmaking is high with a diverse range set in far-flung locations like West Bengal, Croatia, Iran, Slovakia, Israel, Greece and other places. There are films that'll blow your mind, challenge you, make you laugh and even cry.

Two winners (one from each category) will be announced on the night and presented with the Buckshot Trophy, which is a large, locally-made crocheted sculpture of a buck head, so make sure you don't miss this event. The judging panel includes Steve Miller, Steve Dawkins, Helen Bunyon, Colleen Hughson and Matt Neal.

There were 9 competitors in the 3X3 Filmmaking Challenge , 5 of which were made by South West Vic locals. One 3X3 film was written by, and stars, children. All of the films you will see are incredibly varied in content, working across almost every film genre, ranging from documentary and sci-fi, to black comedy and drama, animations and experimental videos. The films vary in length from as short as 10 seconds to as long as 15 minutes. One music video that will be screened was made by Warrnambool local Alex Francis for local band, the Merri Creek Pickers.

Some of the short listed films (My 2014 Neighbour) are about friends you make growing up in the Philippines who you can count on to be there to play games with. Come the 21st century and the friends you now have are ones that live in a monitor or talk to at the tap of your finger. This film explores the issue of social dynamics through a screen and if it ultimately makes interactions mean any less. 'Sonder During End Times' follows a kleptomaniac who roams a shopping mall encountering people and thoughts. 'Sunday', a short Aussie drama follows one day in the life of a lonely and determined young girl. Her heart and will set to task, she'll learn to deal with disappointment when her efforts in pitting all her energies into reaching an elusive and disinterested ice cream truck offers little reward. There are many more little gems like these on offer on the day.
