I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

Dine like a king on the Sydney waterfront at Buckley's Craft Beer Bar. The position is perfect for after work catch ups or pre-theatre dining and is not as expensive or crowded as the nearby Opera Bar.

The menu has the usual pub classics of schnitzels, burgers, fish & chips and pizza. What it lacks in finesse compared to the fine dining establishments in the area it more than makes up with a warm welcome and honest filling food.

Even on a Tuesday night Buckley's was busy with a clientele made up of office workers, tourists and theatre goers. Saying this it was still easy to get a seat with a view. We chose to sit inside as it was quite crowded outside but we're still entertained by the passing parade and ferries plying their trade.

The rump steak special

We opted to have the lamb rump and rump steak special, each were $18 with a serve of salad and chips. The meals were very tasty and had a generous amount of perfectly cooked meat. The happy hour beer & wine special (Mon-Fri 5-7) made our pre-show meal very good value. We were tempted to linger longer over another drink or a cocktail but would have missed the start of the show.

You order and pay at the bar but your meals are brought out to you. The bar and wait staff are friendly, young and efficient. The meals are brought out quickly but you are not pressured to leave in a hurry. The atmosphere when we were there was relaxed and happy and the majority of people were dressed casually. The easiest way to get here is by walking towards the Opera House from Circular Quay. They also have express lunch specials for $16, cater for functions and operate a loyalty rewards 'Beer Club'.

While away some time drinking and dining watching Sydney Harbour do its thing. You will have buckley's of finding better.
