Buchan Caves

Discovered in the early 1900s, but created over 300 million years ago, the Buchan caves are a group of underground limestone caves in eastern Victoria (approximately 5 hours from Melbourne). The caves, which were created by underground rivers cutting through the rock, include the fairy cave and the royal cave and are over three kilometres long with six different openings.



The fairy cave was first opened to visitors in 1907 and then three years later in 1910, the royal cave was also opened to visitors. Today visitors can still explore the caves with walk ways and lighting being put into the two caves for both the visitors and the conservation of the caves. However, to gain access to the caves you need to take one of Park Victoria's daily guided tours of the caves. Tickets can be booked online or at the information centre on site! Although tickets do run out as spaces are limited during peak times.
