Homewares and home decorating walking tours are just as popular as photography and food walking tours. For example, take bohemian Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, where there is more to homewares than meets the eye.

For starters, it would be great if the trams on tram route 112 were just as new as either tram routes 96 or 109, yet as soon as you leave the hospital and university area of Fitzroy, you'll be greeted with some fantastic, quirky homewares, and some great places to start your engine in cafe society Melbourne.

For starters, remember to alight from tram stop 15, and stay on the tram line going to the West Preston side of Brunswick Street for now.

1. Mazi

Flowers set the scene for a great homewares walking bonanza at Mazi , 203 Brunswick Street. Just admire the flowers, and if you love floral dresses, then that is a bonus.

2. Kami

Keep walking until you find yourself at Kami , 217 Brunswick Street. Where the noble notebook has had a facelift, and one that is great on any kitchen bench/breakfast bar, living room table, or even on your desk in your home office. Such a diverse range of cool treats and book arts.

3. PG Primtmaker Gallery

An art lover's paradise continues along this tour with a visit to the PG Printmaker Gallery , 227 Brunswick Street. Margie, Fi and Irene have done a spectacular job in bringing together some quality prints - from the printmakers to the general public indeed. Tasteful artworks for any home living room.

4. Flowers Vasette

Flowers Vasette , 247 Brunswick Street is massive, so chic, and so homely indeed. Their flowers are always divine in this well planned florist. Art and flowers do combine - definitely the best of both worlds.

5. The Fitzroy Book Outlet

Cross the road, and now to some cheap books. Books are homewares, and especially as they serve a prominent role on many living room bookshelves, like they're trophies for sure. Find yourself just in front of Jaspers Coffee, and welcome yourself into The Fitzroy Book Outlet, the home of the cheapest books in Fitzroy, let alone all of Melbourne. Great cookbooks, as well as books on gardening and nature can be found here. Cloud frames for your little ones are just so cheap and divine here as well.

6. Jasper Coffee

Once you have left the home of cheap, interesting books for the home, find yourself outside Jasper Coffee , right next door at 267 Brunswick Street. The welcoming ambience, and the smell of quality arabica coffee beans ensures you open up sesame. Particularly love the Moroccan tile coasters ($6) right near the cafe counter. I must say, one medium latte with a sugar ($4.50) in a take away cup to enjoy outside, is so simple yet great. Chocolate lovers, homewares meets some quality pralines, such as the cappuccino praline for only $2.50 a piece. Yum. Elegant water coolers and teapots can also be found here.

7. Jasper Junior

Moving on, Jasper Junior next door at 269 Brunswick Street is a haven for all things kid friendly. So cool. Unconventional (albeit) hand made toys can be found here. Such elegant pieces blend well in any living room, whether there is a dedicated kids corner in your home or not. Love it.

8. NMHQ

In the meantime, take in some quirky art pieces that could serve as inspiration for your next home decorating project, until you find yourself at NMHQ , 362 Brunswick Street. Europe meets Morocco, and adore some beautiful jewellery, of which is a homeware item in itself. Especially when you come to this trendy establishment.

9. Kleins Perfumery

There is another bookstore nearby, where you can find yourself a great book to sit on any coffee table. A fashionable book that might be beyond reading for a while, until you head to Kleins Perfumery , 313 Brunswick Street, where some beautiful candles, diffusers and other fashionable beauty and skin care treats can be found. These brands show off as homewares anyway: L'Occitane in particular. They even sell candles from the Glasshouse Fragrances range. Lovely staff here. Who knows, you might bump into their gorgeous resident cat TC.

10. Halsinky Project

Head on to the Halsinky Project, 360 Brunswick Street, where some beautiful Buddha candles delight, in a variety of different flavours and scents. Equally as exciting, you'll soon be able to buy their products online.

11. Other options

Before tucking into a delicious, healthy Vegetarian lunch at The Vegie Bar , a bonus stop along this walking tour includes a quirky homewares store called Shag . Cross the lights, and enjoy a beautiful lunch with great company at The Vegie Bar. If you wish to continue the tour afterwards, stay on this new side of Brunswick Street, and keep walking until you find Wilkins and Kent . This store is to end a great directional homewares walking tour of Brunswick Street. Happy home decorating Melbourne.
