Sometimes treasure hides in clear sight. The important thing is to realise you've been overlooking it sooner rather than later. So here is your map, and the X is located squarely over the Festival on the 1st May.

In a quest to promote small business and bring shopper focus back onto local shopkeepers and shopping strips, the Festival is hosting a series of curated events and workshops alongside some discounts and free samples and tastings on Sunday 1st May 2016.

Events will run from 10am – 6pm and include the following activities:

Add your contribution to the Vasette Flower Wall from 10am to create a community masterpiece.

Get hands-on (with Mother's Day in mind) and decorate a vase at Arro Home for $10, while kids can enjoy some paper collage play from 11am – 3pm.

Aromatherapy can improve your health in many ways. Learn more about essential oils at the Aromatherapy For Well-Being workshop between 12.30pm – 1.30pm.

Bring the kids to an illustration workshop with children's book author & illustrator Elise Hurst at the Brunswick Street Bookstore between 1.30pm – 2.30pm.

Learn how to pot and grow your own vegetables. The Fitzroy Nursery are hosting introductory talks on establishment and maintenance and offering attendees a 15% discount on all purchases afterward. Talks are being held between 3pm – 4pm.

The Cruelty Free shop will be offering a sample taste of Vegan Energy Bars between 11am – 1pm, and vegan chocolate tasting between 3pm – 6pm.

Sample some fine cheese at Wilkins and Kent.

Learn about skin care and aromatherapy at Perfect Potion from 3.30pm – 4.30pm, or take a chakra alignment class.

Maven & Kit are your textile specialists. Between 4pm – 5pm hear guest speaker Georgia Toone talk about accessorising and styling, then from 6pm see Drag Show with Nancy Boyce.

Hear some live music at Polyester Records. Three bands will be performing between 4pm – 5pm.

Make a very special, personalised Mother's Day card at Zetta Florence for $5. This activity runs all day.

Wynterprojects will be hosting walking art tours.

For all your vintage wear, with a special emphasis on the 70's, rock into Yesteryear Vintage.

Isles of Man Vintage are giving you the chance to see yourself in caricature. Lluis Fuzzhound will be doing sketches upon request for $10, with all proceeds being donated to the Fitzroy Soup Van. Isle of Man are also offering 10% off selected men's clothing all day long.

The program is extensive to say the very least, with multiple events at many of the venues and activities running all day. Be sure to check out the website for specific details and booking information. The Trader's Association will also email you a complete program upon request, and be sure to follow the Facebook page for regular updates.

The Festival is being held on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy on Sunday 1st May 2016 from 10am – 6pm and is supported by the City of Yarra and event sponsors Bank Australia, Flexicar and 10 Collective.
