Brunetti, 194 - 204 Faraday Street Carlton, in the early days, existed as a quaint coffee and cake shop with an inviting cosy Italian feeling. Soon after, the charm was lost as it expanded and became a factory like chain illuminated by fluorescent lighting and resembling a hospital cafeteria rather than an Italian Pasticceria.
Nevertheless, the cakes and hand made chocolates are to die for as is their coffee and infamous Italian hot chocolate, made from high quality rich chocolate using a secret family recipe that will satisfy any chocoholic's addiction.
Offering single serves or whole cakes, hand made chocolates, gelati, savoury treats, salads, and hot and cold beverages, Brunetti is a family friendly casual café – a great spot to catch up with friends, take a break from shopping on Lygon Street, treat the kids to a free babychino, or have a quick caffeine fix before heading out for dinner.
Open until 11pm Sunday through Thursday and until midnight on Friday and Saturday, Brunetti Carlton is the place to buy that last minute birthday cake or dessert for a dinner party that will be sure to impress the receiver and have everyone coming back for seconds.
Other locations include City Square, 214 Flinders Lane (also open until midnight on Friday and Saturday); Myer Melbourne on Bourke St; Shop 2, 89 Johnston Street, Fitzroy; and 1 / 3 Prospect Hill Road , Camberwell.
Hi, I suggest you call into Cottle on Coventry near the South Melbourne Market. The staff are very friendly, efficient and courteous, there is a choice of coffee blends and fresh cakes / slices daily. We love the relaxed atmosphere inside where we can enjoy coffee, cake and newspaper in clean surroundings, without the bustle of passing trade, smokers and traffic. Thanks for your column. Weary
