If you are looking for somewhere nice to eat and don't want to travel into the inner city, here's a list for those who live in the Eastern suburbs!
1. Three Monkeys Cafe -Doncaster East Address: 2 Jackson Ct, Doncaster East VIC 3109
Located just off Doncaster Road, Three Monkeys Cafe has been a local favourite for the past years and in 2017 they were voted in the top 20 Melbourne Cafes. They offer a good range of sweet and savoury options, catering to everyone's taste.
A must try is their signature Sweet Monkey -a fried roti pancakes, banana, mixed berries, popcorn, cookie crumble, mascarpone & maple syrup.
2. Bob's Your Uncle Cafe -Doncaster East Address: 38 Jackson Ct, Doncaster East VIC 3109
Bob's Your Uncle Cafe is easy to miss unless you live in the area! It is tucked inside in the corner of Jackson Court closer to Doncaster Reserve with a combination of indoor and outdoor seating. Some menu options are seasonal so it is always a fun surprise to see what they have new to offer each time.

3. Down the Rabbit Hole Cafe -Templestowe Address: Shop 8/22 Newmans Road, Templestowe, VIC 3106
Make your way down the rabbit hole and that is exactly what you will find -A bustling cafe tucked away in Templestowe. Their must try is the Yuzu Benedict -Crispy bacon, rosti, poached eggs, Hollandaise sauce topped with yuzu dust.
4. Jolly Miller Cafe -Balwyn North Address: 315 Doncaster Rd, Balwyn North VIC 3104
Jolly Miller has been around since the early 1990s, beginning as a patisserie in Gisborne and since has expanded to 11 cafes all around Melbourne. They offer humble food, filling portions, friendly service and spacious rooms -perfect for families.
5. The Hatter and the Hare -Bayswater

A bit further out East you will find The Hatter and the Hare, an Alice in Wonderland-themed restaurant with many sweet and savoury options. A must try are their beautiful and tasty sweets, doughnuts and cakes.
6. Abacus All Day -Ringwood

Clean, simple and spacious place with ambience, what better way to wind down from shopping than to enjoy brunch with friends here! Abacus All Day are open breakfast, lunch and dinner so no matter what time of the day you are shopping, there is always delicious food available.
7. Whitehorse Chloe -Box Hill
Address: 1/850 Whitehorse Rd, Box Hill VIC 3128
Relatively new to the brunch scene is Whitehorse Chloe, it is a new cafe located on Whitehorse Road in Box Hill. They are on the ground floor of a new high rise building, with modern decor, marble tables and light filled rooms. They offer breakfast/brunch in the mornings, high tea in the late afternoon and dinner in the evening -the perfect place no matter what the occasion.
8. White Mojo Plus -Glen Waverley
Address: 83-85 Kingsway, Glen Waverley VIC 3150
White Mojo Plus is not your ordinary breakfast-brunch cafe, they also offer a bistro like dinner menu. They are conveniently located on Kingsway in Glen Waverley with village cinemas, strike bowling and the shopping district located extremely close by. Their menu is playful and offers a wide range of Asian fusion options, savoury and sweet.
9. Baba Sus -Glen Iris

If you are into Asian fusion then Baba Sus is a must visit cafe. Located just behind Burwood station, this quaint cafe is modern, simple and if you look carefully enough you will find little Japanese crockery and figurines hidden around. Their menu draws inspiration from favourites all around Asia-including Japanese okonomiyaki, Hong Kong egg waffles, Taiwanese baos, Thai flavours and many more.
10. The Penny Drop Cafe -Box Hill
Address: 913 Whitehorse Rd, Box Hill VIC 3128
The Penny Drop Cafe started off as a coffee pop-up and since has become one of the popular cafes in Box Hill. They offer a modern Australian menu that draws inspiration from Asian flavours. They are located on Whitehorse Road, just a few minutes away by foot from Box Hill Centro and Box Hill station or if you're travelling from the city -you can take the 109 Tram which will bring you to its doorsteps.
Hooray! Hooray! Let's celebrate the wonderful diversity and quality of eating places we have out in the eastern suburbs. I am very lucky I have 4 fine cafes within an easy 15 minute stroll from my home. Why would I endure the hassle of going into the fabled inner city?
