South Bank’s hot new burger joint
Burgers and Brew – the perfect combination! It is a Sunday afternoon and Brooklyn Depot, the new American burger bar at South Bank is buzzing. Juicy burgers are being delivered to patrons while I'm waiting in the queue for an available table.
The menu is making me hungry. The All-American fare includes 13 handcrafted burgers, five varieties of hot dogs and the classics - chicken wings, onion rings, chicken tenders, BBQ Pork Ribs, corn on the cobb and Mac 'N' Cheese.
Burgers are the main attraction. Tantalise your taste buds with the Fuhgeddaboudit!, with its grass-fed beef patty, beef chilli, American cheese, onion rings, chilli relish and an injection of hot sauce; the Wisenheimer, with its slow-cooked pork belly, green apple slaw and truffle mayo or The Depot Burger, two grass fed beef patties, double American cheese, hickory smoked bacon, grilled pineapple, oak leaf lettuce, tomato and Depot sauce.
The burgers are worth the wait! The On the Lam burger was huge. Filled with 12-hour pulled lamb shoulder, roasted red peppers, lettuce, thick feta pieces, onion strings and tzatziki yoghurt, this burger was simply divine.
Wash your meal down with an American craft beer or try one of Brooklyn Depot's famous Depot Shakes. The My Man shake is chock-full with Hershey's chocolate sauce, ice-cream and crushed Oreos and the Yo'Mama is full of delectable ice-cream, strawberry puree, strawberry sauce and Kit Kat pieces. Both of these shakes can be served with liqueur if you're over 18.
Save room for dessert. American delights include the caramel, pecan chocolate brownie served with a drizzle of salted caramel sauce and the double waffle ice-cream sandwich topped with chocolate sauce and strawberries.
Inspired by old-Brooklyn, Brooklyn Depot boasts exposed brick walls and subway signage. This is Brooklyn Depot's third restaurant in Australia, joining the immensely popular restaurants at Surfers Paradise and Sydney.
Located opposite the South Bank Cinemas on Grey Street, Brooklyn Depot is open seven days a week, 11am until late.
