A Supporter's Experience

As the 2024, National Rugby League (NRL) season gets ready to kick off, one of the South East Queensland teams, the Brisbane Broncos saw thousands of its supporters descend on their training field a Red Hill where the Club hosted a fan day on Sunday 11 February 2024.

The Fan Day was the opportunity players had been waiting for to meet and greet their supporters as they aim to bring home the Premiership Trophy in September.

Members of the Bronxnation, followers of Rugby League and sport may remember that in 2023, the Brisbane Broncos were runners-up in the the NRL Grand Final. With a seemingly winning lead, they were disappointingly defeated in a magnificent comeback by defending champions, the Penrith Panthers.

As the Broncos, plan for their season opener as one of the 17 clubs in the competition, there is a sense for players and fans that there is unfinished business for the Team to finish what they started in 2023.

On a warm February day, the summer rains held off for the Fan Day to be held from 9 am to 12 noon at the teams' training headquarters at Fulcher Road, Red Hill Brisbane. Here are some of the highlights from the event:

Meet the Bronco Charity Partners
Representatives from the Broncos Charity Partners Program, which creates collaborative efforts between the Club and community organisations, were onsite. This year's Charity Partners represent a range of important interests including mental health and children's health and include:

- Mental Awareness Foundation
- Juiced TV
- Best Life
_Guide Dogs Queensland
- The Pjamna Foundation
- The Lady Musgrave Trust
- Ladybird Care
_ Ronald McDonald House
- MND and Me Foundation and Carl Webb Foundation
- Drought Angels

Along Fulcher Road, a series of Marquee tents were set up by the Broncos Charity Partners where representatives were on hand to share information and material with the public about their cause and efforts.

Meet The Players
Not surprisingly, the most popular feature of the day was the chance to meet and be photographed with the team. Marquee players like the flying Reece Walsh, Katoni Staggs and Selwyn Cobbo were in high demand. The players rotated through a series of locations to try and meet fans, take selfies and sign autographs with as many as possible.

On Ground Activities
On the lower training field (Gilbert Park), the public was welcome to wander onto the ground for a host of fun activities. Touch footy and skills sessions, jumping castle, giant slide, petting zoo, rock climbing. The Broncos Cheer squad and the Broncos mascots were on the field to say hello.

Up Close with Buck The Bronco Horse
Loyal fans will know that the Team's mascot, Buck the Bronco horse does a lap of honour at home games when the team scores points. Buck and his handler were positioned on the field to meet fans. There were also pony rides for the kids.

What Next?
As the Fan Day concluded, the players were preparing to fly out to a Los Angeles training camp in the US, ahead of the historic NRL season opener in Las Vegas.
