Based on a book by Daniel Clay,
Broken is directed by Rufus Norris. This is his debut film and it was the recipient of the 'Best British Independent Film' award at the
British Independent Awards 2012.
The film in itself is quite emotional and intense. Set in modern day England, it is about growing up and broken relationships. It stars Cillian Murphy and Tim Roth and is a must see.
It begins with a child named Skunk (Eloise Laurence), witnessing her friend, Rick (Robert Elms), being brutally attacked by their neighbour, Bob Oswald (Rory Kinear); it is revealed that Mr. Oswald's daughters have accused Rick of rape.
Skunk lives with her brother, Jed (Bill Milner), her father, who is loving and reliable (Tim Roth), and au-pair, Kasia (Zana Marjanovic). During the course of the movie Skunk's life changes; Kasia breaks up with her boyfriend, Mike (Cillian Murphy), who is Skunk's favourite teacher and she becomes bullied by Mr. Oswald's daughters at school.
There is a lot of course language in the film as well sexual references.
I really did enjoy the movie and it was well worth seeing. Brilliant acting by Cillian Murphy and Eloise Laurence
