Broadwater Picnic Ground is a popular park for picnics and parties. We have attended two birthday celebrations here in recent months. If not for these parties, I would never have known this park existed.


Hidden in the middle of Mansfield, surrounded by houses, this spacious, suburban park is a southside gem. The park has two play areas: a small playground for younger children and a larger, recently upgraded playground for older children. The new play area features a flying fox, rope ladders and bridges, spinning equipment, slides, and swings. My three-year-old loves setting up shop at the Broadwater Corner Store. There is also an interactive flower garden and miniature motorbikes.




Other fun favourites include a basketball half-court and a bicycle circuit, complete with give way signs and a roundabout. The most popular piece of playground equipment though, would have to be the coaster; with kids queuing on weekends for a turn. The coaster is lots of fun and fast. The more the kids peddle, the faster they go. Once they get some speed up, they can coast up and down for as long as the momentum lets them.


As its name suggests, this park is perfect for picnics; with electric and wood-fired barbecues, picnic tables, and an amenities block. If you are planning a party, it would be wise to get there early to secure one of the shelters. Otherwise, there are plenty of picnic tables scattered throughout the shady grounds.


After a picnic (if the kids have any peddle power left), hop on your bikes. Broadwater Picnic Ground adjoins Bulimba Creek and the Bulimba Creek Bikeway runs through the park.

lies at the end of Broadwater Road, with access from Sandringham Street, Culzean Street, and Mansfield Place. Parking is plentiful with two off-street parking spaces off Mansfield Place plus street parking.
