I'm a freelance writer and yogi living in Tepoztlan, Mexico where I'm running www.casadelcorazon.mx with my girlfriend. You can keep up with my other writing on www.bollocks2thewellingtons.com/
The first time we went in this place, just by Tha Pae gate in the centre of the old town in Chiang Mai, was after a couple of tiring hours at the Sunday Market. They had the football on and we fancied a drink so even though it looked a bit pricey and was essentially a hotel bar we decided to give it a go.
We've been back several times since after discovering that actually the drinks are fairly reasonably priced (although they still do the strange Thai thing of glasses of wine being more economical as bottles or carafes which makes no sense to me...) On top of this they have comfy seats inside, a good selection of cakes in the fridge and some of the nicest toilets I've been to in a long while. (I was particularly impressed by the sinks which have this beautiful copper tray above them where the water cascades from when you go to wash your hands).
I think the main reason we keep going back, though, is because of the house band who play a selection of Elvis, Cliff, the Beatles and other classics along with Thai songs and the occasional jam where they really come into their own. They appreciate the audience with cheeky grins and waves and clearly enjoy entertaining the crowd each evening. Don't go expecting anything cutting edge but I like them a lot.
