I have a had a life-long love of the arts; enjoying theatre, ballet, art and movies. We are all time poor and have limits to our entertainment budget so I hope an honest review will help make your choices easier.

Have a giggle and be inspired
Brittany Runs a Marathon, written and directed by Paul Downs Colaizzo, is based on the real life story of his best friend.
Brittany Runs a Marathon

Brittany (Jillian Bell) is 27 years old and while life is falling into place for those around her, Brittany's life is one hot mess. Having completed an expensive degree, she can't find work in her chosen field. Her relationships have morphed into a serious of shameful one night stands. Her youthful party life has given way to a series of bad habits and serious binge drinking. Her doctor has told her to lose weight or face serious health risks. And not even her wicked sense of humour can save her from the train-crash of her existence.

Like many of us, Brittany decides to turn over a new leaf with a trip to the gym. But when the membership fees blow her mind and her budget, Brittany turns to a pair of joggers and the streets. When she meets some fellow runners, also trying to reinvent themselves, Brittany finds herself committed to running the New York Marathon.

Brittany's journey is filled with all too relatable struggles to regain control of her life and some semblance of fitness. These struggles, when blended with Brittany's healthy self-deprecating humour kept the audience drifting from one laugh-out-loud moment to the next. With the giggles punctuated by poignant moments were the true humanity of this story punched through and left a challenge to do better hanging in the air.

This is a classic chick flick and a bit like dear Bridget, in Bridget Jones 's Diary, you will find yourself slightly besotted with and often embarrassed by the lovely Brittany. But ultimately, like me, you may well find yourself inspired by a story of reclaiming life not through one miraculous moment but rather by pure determination and a daily commitment to doing better.

Take your friends for a great night out, but have your runners parked beside the bed for the next morning. Brittany Runs a Marathon is in cinemas 31 October 2019.
