Exotic tastes in Torrensville
The smell that hits you as you enter British Raj is a pleasant indicator of things to come. Tucked in amongst the dining strip of Henley Beach Road, British Raj offers delicious Indian food, great service, and a cosy atmosphere in which to enjoy a night out.

An added bonus is that they are currently taking part in the Adelaide Festival of Food, during which you can dine banquet stye from a set menu for $25.50 per person.

The entree tasting platter was a huge hit, with the curry prawns being a particular favourite. Tender and juicy prawns with the perfect amount of seasoning were a great start to the meal.

For mains we sampled the goat curry, the Aloo Gobi (potato and cauliflower) and one of the restaurant's specialties, Chicken Jalfrezy.

I have to give a particular mention to the vegetables, which were incredibly delicious and full of flavour.

Aloo Gobi

The Jalfrezy was very nice as well, with an unusual mixture of spices that were hard to pinpoint. It was flavourful enough to satisfy me, but not so hot or strange that more timid eaters (aka, those who would usually insist on Butter Chicken) wouldn't be happy with it too.

The goat curry was nice but not the best I've tasted; some of the meat was a little tough, too.

Another highlight was the delicious mango lassi. However, for those who have fond memories of enjoying the lime drink Limca in India, I have to warn will be disappointed with British Raj's offering. It seemed I was served a glass of water with half a lime and a little sugar- not exactly what I was hoping for.

Altogether though, I have to give British Raj a thumbs up- the service couldn't have been better, everything was pretty well delicious, and it is a really pleasant place in which to enjoy a meal.
