  • Paying homage to actor Michael Caine this year you'll find him in the true British classics The Italian Job and Alfie, plus two Australian premieres, My Generation and King of Thieves. My Generation is an upbeat doco where Caine will invite you into the world of his youth, the Swinging 60s, London. He narrates and stars alongside greats like The Beatles, Twiggy, David Bailey, Mary Quant, The Rolling Stones, David Hockney and many other iconic names.

Special Events in all States are Colette for Opening Night and Stan & Ollie for the Closing. Some States will celebrate with all three or some of the following - reception, afterparty, live music.

The Opening Night film was the official selection at the Sundance Film Fest and BFI London Film Fest this year. Starring the demure Keira Knightly as Colette, she play the eponymous French novelist at the dawn of the feminist age. Encouraged as a young bride by her husband, an older, notorious literary entrepreneur, she takes pen to paper and invents novels that takes Paris by storm. However her husband takes authorial credit, and Colette must set out to reclaim her literary voice.

Closing Night's Stan & Ollie revisits a time of Hollywood's greatest comedy double act, Laurel and Hardy. A true story, it's brought to you on the big screen for the first time and stars Steve Coogan and John C Reilly as the movie icons. A truly funny and touching story of a life-long friendship, they'll warm your hearts and secure a spot in it, with their love of performing and for each other.

With many films to choose from, you'll find little gems like Swimming with Men ; a Full Monty in speedos? A heart-warming comedy about a man in the midst of a mid-life crisis who finds meaning in the most unlikely of places; an all-male, middle-aged, amateur synchronised swimming team! Funny and moving, it's bound to be a feel-good film not to miss.

Red Joan on the other hand is a good old British spy thriller with Academy Award winner Judi Dench and Sophie Cookson taking on the complex persona and legacy of Joan Stanley, a seemingly demure physicist who also happens to be a long-serving British spy for the KGB. It is the taut and emotional discovery of one woman's sacrifice in the face of incredible circumstances.

Go back in time and enjoy the Swinging 60s with two of Cain's films aforementioned and who could forget To Sir, With Love , Georgie Girl and The Knack...And How To Get It . Head back to a time when everyone was singing Hey There Georgie Girl and we were all in the classroom with Sidney Poitier as Thackeray who earns the respect of the troublemakers. Enjoy the Palme d'Or winner at the 1965 Cannes Film Fest with The Knack as one young naïve and gawky man works at getting his girl by beating a cool and sophisticated another who has a monopoly on womanising and a long line of conquests to prove it. All's fair in love and war, and you have your work cut out for you to organise your dates to catch all you can at this exciting film festival.
