Digging deeper...can Australian soils really feed the world?

The first BrisScience event for 2015 is coming to The Edge at the State Library this April, and you don't need to be a scientist to attend. As the world population grows, and climate change increasingly affects crops, the pertinent question will be posed to the expert panel: Can Australian soils really feed the world?

The four panellists will be: Rob Pekin, founder of Food Connect and a former dairy farmer, with a strong belief in the practice of community-supported agriculture; Dr Neil McKenzie, former Chief of CSIRO Land and Water, who is actively involved in shaping public policy on scientific aspects of land resource management; Dr Christine Williams, Assistant Director-General, Science Division of DSITI, a trained economist who now leads the Science Division, which provides scientific and technical advice and services to government agencies; and Philip Mulvey, CEO of Environmental Earth Sciences, who has 30 years of experience in soil sciences, hydrogeology, water resource assessment, and contamination studies.

The event's facilitator will be Professor Neal Menzies, Head of the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences at the University of Queensland. The Professor is sure to put the panellists through the paces, as they answer the questions of future food sustainability.
