I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: coeliacfamily.blogspot.com.au
I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.
It won't be long until the BrisBrick LEGO Fan Expo will once again be here, and with the popularity of the recent LEGO Movie, you can be sure that tickets will be selling fast. Builders with a new found love of LEGO will be inspired by the fabulous displays by both professional and amateur LEGO enthusiasts at the Strathpine Community Centre from the 7th to the 9th of June.
BrisBricks is a not-for-profit organization that is staffed by dedicated volunteers with a focus on the community. They bring enjoyment to the young and the young at heart through LEGO. They host two expos each year which raise funds for community organizations. The Pine Rivers expo will raise funds for local organizations from the Pine Rivers area.
One of the great attractions of the BrisBricks Expos is the special session for children with autism. Autistic children and their families are welcome to visit the expo on Sunday morning from 9-10.30 to enjoy the displays without the crowds associated with the general entry sessions. Tickets to this session are strictly limited, so it is advisable to book early.
Brisbane LEGO Ghostbusters Vehicle Creator, Brent Waller, will be there with some of his creations
A special visitor to this year's expo will be the BrisBricks member whose Ghost Busters Vehicle has been accepted by LEGO for mass production. Brisbane's Brent Waller will be at the expo along with some of his other Ghost Busters themed creations.
If you fancy yourself as a bit of an orginal LEGO creator, or you have children who just can't stop building, perhaps you should consider an entry in the BrisBricks Creative Builder Competition. By taking a photo of yourself and your creation and emailing it and your name, suburb, phone number and a description of your creation off to BrisBricks, you could find your creation being selected for display at the Pine Rivers Expo or win a great prize in the prize draw. There are separate sections for the following age groups: under 6, 6 9 years, 10 12 years and 13 years.
Tickets for the Expo sell fast and will give you priority entry to the Expo. Tickets are available from TryBooking and cost $7 for Adults and $3 for Children aged 3 - 15. Limited tickets will be available at the door and will cost $10 for Adults and $5 for Children. The tickets are valid for entry to a particular session to minimize queues, however once inside the venue you can stay as long as you like.
The Expo will run on Saturday 7th June from 9am-4pm, Sunday 8th June from 10.30am-5pm and Monday 9th June from 9am-4pm. There will be a LEGO play area for kids, LEGO Raffle, live Star Wars Characters and food and drink for sale as well as LEGO sets available for purchase. What a great way to spend some time on the June long weekend, sparking creative and being amazed at the fantastic LEGO creations.
