Going to the movies occasionally seems old hat these days. With how cheap and available movies are without getting up from your computer, there is the question of *why* you would want to venture out and view them. The giant screen enhances spectacle, but not all movies are selling themselves upon the spectacle. Yet still, going to the cinemas as a fantastic experience in its own right, and here are 5 places in Brisbane where you can enhance that experience through the venue itself.
Dendy Cinema Located at the Portside Wharf, the Dendy is not the most convenient cinema to reach, but it is definitely one of the nicest. With an intimate feel to all its cinemas, and a nice selection of more upmarket drinks, the Dendy is always a movie experience, whether you find yourselves at a film festival winner or a Hollywood blockbuster.
Event Gold Class
Gold Class is Event Cinema's answer to the success of smaller cinemas, working to bring the air of exclusivity and cosiness to the chain cineplex. Gold class remains an expensive alternative, and you should not be drawn here for the food. It tries, but isn't there. The two best features of gold class are having a glass of champagne, or a cocktail, as well as the seats which are a full half-couch to yourself, complete with leg rest and ability to lie down. Worth the experience, but not an everyday luxury.
Palace Cinemas The Palace Cinemas adds a bar and a larger movie range to a regular cinema excursion, escaping Hollywood to show a range of European-made films. Both Palace Cinemas in Brisbane offer a very pleasant movie-going experience, however Palace Barracks sits right near Suncorp Stadium, and that should be taken into account when travelling to it.
Possessing the only IMAX in Brisbane, if you go to movies for the spectacle, there is nothing better than a screen of this magnitude. Just be careful that you are not watching anything with too much shakey-cam and this provides a larger than life experience. I have never better examined Iain McKellan's nose than when seeing it on this mammoth screen.
Blue Room Cinebar A very small local cinema, with one cinema so small it only seats 24, Blue Room Cinebar is the best place to get a meal and a show in Brisbane, providing delicious food that can be consumed through the movie, and the kind of class that makes this likely the best movie experience in Brisbane
