I feel sorry for cats. Yes, I know many of them lead perfectly pampered lives, but did you know that they are unable to taste sweetness? While that might be a good thing in some respects — no mid-afternoon cravings for a sugar hit or fears of carbohydrates going straight to their thighs, for instance — it also means they're never going to appreciate the divine sweetness of a gorgeous gateau or marvellous meringue. Who's purring now?

Ancient peoples indulged in sweet treats like fruit or nuts rolled in honey, and the Chinese invented a type of ice cream in 3,000 BC, but desserts really came into their own with the manufacturing of sugar in the middle ages. English apple pie recipes date back to the time of Chaucer. Chocolate, that staple of desserts everywhere, began life as a fatty, bitter drink favoured by the Aztecs but eating chocolate as we know it wasn't commercially developed until 1847. And the rest, as they say, is sweet history indeed.

Fast forward to the twenty-first century and dessert bars are popping up all over the place and Brisbane is no exception. Here at Weekend Notes we love a good dessert bar and we've told you about many of our favourites: Sunnybank's Coco Jungle Chocolate Lounge , South Bank's Chocolate Pavillion Dessert Cafe , Max Brenner , Theobroma Chocolate Lounge , and Chocolateria San Churro (what is it with South Bank and chocolate?), and Freestyle Tout in Fortitude Valley. I'm sure it's not coincidental that so many of those have chocolate in their names.

Ones we've yet to review include Fusion Cafe and Dessert at Robertson, and Fortitude Valley's Roll A Crepe .

Now we're looking for your input. If you're a sweet tooth extraordinaire you've probably already sussed out Brisbane's best dessert bars, so please share your hot tips and recommendations with our readers. We know they'll love you for it.
