Every year from late November to Christmas Day the whole of Brisbane rings with the sounds of "Joy to the World", "Jingle Bells", "O, Holy Night!" and, God forbid, "I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus" and "Santa Baby".

Christmas carols are all pervasive. In shops they are broadcast as a festive background to your Christmas shopping. In shopping centres and malls you'll be greeted by carol-singing elves and angels, choir boys, and girls clad in that faux fur-trimmed, red mini-skirted outfit favoured by Santa's helpers everywhere. You know, the one that results in a rather incongruous cross between Mrs Claus and a sexy snow bunny.

[ADVERT]Christmas Carols events sprout up like mushrooms all over Brisbane from late November and it would seem that Brisbaneites can't get enough of them. They range from the homey charm of the local school concert-cum-carols night to the celebrity-laden, big-budget events complete with orchestras and choirs.

Below are some of the contenders for Brisbane's Best Christmas Carols event in 2012. And they're all free

Lord Mayors Carols in the City
This one is Brisbane's carols extravaganza. Big names (Troy Cassar-Daly, Marina Prior, and that Christmas carols stalwart, Paulini), a picture perfect location at Brisbane's Riverstage, a band, choir and dance troupe combine for a big-time event loved by families for many years. Set aside Saturday 8 December for this one, with gates opening at 5pm and all the carols action from 7.30pm.

Christmas in the Park Pine Rivers Park
If you live on the northside this is the Christmas carols event to really get you in the Christmas spirit. There'll be Santa (of Course), the Lorax (NOT the Grinch!), fireworks, and Paulini again (boy, does she get around at Christmas time). Enjoy all the fun on 24 November from 5pm to 9pm at Pine Rivers Park, Strathpine.

Logan City Mayor's Christmas Carols
Logan's shining Christmas star is scheduled for Saturday 15 December from 3pm to 8.30pm at Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre. Headlined by Jessica Mauboy, it will also feature Craig Martin and his Swing Band, the Cantabile Choir, Santa and fireworks.

Carols @ Multicap
Another southside event, Carols @ Multicap this year features the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra, the Carindale Salvation Army Band, Multicap's own Southside Singers, and the Queensland Youth Choir. There'll also be a lantern making workshop and other activities for children. It's on from 5pm to 8pm on Saturday 24 November at 303 Padstow Road, Eight Mile Plains.

Christmas by the Sea
Moreton Bay Regional Council presents this event at Scarborough Scarborough Beach Waterfront Park, Landsborough Avenue, Redcliffe on Saturday 1 December. Action begins at noon. There will be a craft activities, rides, street parade and twilight concert.

'Tis the Season @ Roma Street Parklands
In the relaxing surrounds of Roma Street Parklands Amphitheatre you'll be entertained by the Youth Performing Arts Company and Brisbane Symphonic Band on Sunday 2 Dec from 5pm.
