Want to treat your children to a guaranteed good time? Here's a look at three of the best playgrounds this great city has to offer.

Wynnum Water Park, Wynnum

Water, sand and plenty of play equipment, the Wynnum Water Park has it all. Situated on the Wynnum Esplanade, overlooking Moreton Bay, the Water Park offers plenty for everyone — including those who don't want to get their feet wet.

A highlight of this playground is the pod of large blue whales. The littlies will have hours of fun climbing all over the giant sea creatures and running around in the vast spray regularly sent flying from each whale's blowhole. There are also opportunities to cool off in the nearby Wynnum Wading Pool or Pandanus Beach.



In cooler times, or for those wanting to stay dry, the adjoining playground has you covered. There's a towering, spider web-style rope climb for the daring, plus a nautical-themed playground which suits everyone from toddlers to teens.

Our toddler was happy to simply run around in the sand (and occasionally sample the odd mouthful, of course), but there was plenty going on for older, more adventurous types. Parents won't feel left out either, with covered tables, gas BBQs, and shaded grass areas making Wynnum's Water Park a real family affair.

Underwood Park, Priestdale

This sprawling park is found on Brisbane's southside in the suburb of Priestdale.

The park is home to a stack of facilities, including sporting fields, a basketball court, BMX and mountain bike tracks, and even a duck pond and boardwalk. But it's the massive children's playground that really earns Underwood its place in this list.

The adventure-themed FUNderwood Hollow is a real sight to behold with its castle-style towers. Designed for children aged five to 16, the playground boasts climbing nets and a wall, rope bridges and a fireman's pole, all while looking like something straight out of a fairytale.



Toddlers and younger children are also catered for, with the adjoining playground featuring low-rise ramps and slides. The whole area is surrounded by sand, so if your child does take a tumble there's no real harm done.



As if this isn't enough, the playground precinct is also home to a pedal-powered monorail and flying fox (for the young at heart, both these items are adult friendly!).

So pack a picnic, make use of the covered picnic tables, and sit back as the kids have a ball.

Riverside Green, South Bank

Bright, modern and towering several metres above the ground, this South Bank playground is about as visually appealing as they come.



There's a super-high skywalk, complete with bridges and connecting slides, plus spider web climbing nets, swings and a mouse wheel. For the younger kids there's a pirate ship with low-level slides, climbing nets and even wheelchair access.

In summer the playground can be busy and quite hot, which makes its location — alongside the South Bank beach — absolutely perfect. Kids of all ages can cool down in the swimming pool or man-made beach, or by running under one of the many towers, regularly dumping bucket loads of water on overheated kids.

Of course, there's no shortage of cafes, bars and other refreshment options in the South Bank precinct, so it's not only the kids who get to have all the fun.
