I'm a spottily employed journalist with a love of books and "genre" movies living in Brisbane. I have no blog as it's much too self-aggrandising.
Event: -
Jonathan Franzen
Author Jonathan Franzen is one of the speakers not to be missed at the 2011 Brisbane Writers Festival.

The Brisbane Writers Festival starts Wednesday with dozens of sessions for the budding writer and the seasoned bibliophile.

Festival Director Jane O'Hara is excited about the line-up this year and the quality of the discussion.

The writers are all so enthusiastic and watching their emails to each other as they prepare for their panels is really exciting," Ms O'Hara said.

There's going to be some great onstage conversations!"
Ms O'Hara is looking forward to people discovering something new.

What writer will people 'find' at Brisbane Writers Festival who will now 'live with them' forever?" she asks.

Now that's the fun thing to know!

I heard someone say this morning 'when you see a good film don't you want to talk about it' and I thought the same about books.

When you read a good book you just want to talk about it and that's what all those thousands of people will be doing in just a couple of weeks.

I can't wait to be part of the conversation and community."
Ms O'Hara has also outlined her top four not-to-be-missed sessions over the festival.

• Simone Felice Solo - Friday, 9 September, 5-6pm

• Meet Jonathan Franzen - Saturday, 10 September 5-6pm

• Festival Club: MothUP Brisbane - Friday, 9 September, 7-9pm

• What Now? After the Flood? - Sunday, 11 September, 1-2pm

She said anyone interested in attending the events should get in quick to avoid disappointment.

"Brisbane Writers Festival sessions, feature events and workshops sell fast – book early to secure your spots," she said.

The 2011 Brisbane Writers Festival runs from Wednesday, September 7 to Sunday, September 11.
