In Brisbane, we are lucky to have the most pleasant Winter in the Nation. When some cities endure three months of rain, snow and frost, we get to enjoy fresh breezes while the sun continues to shine.

Sure, the temperature drops, but rather than hibernating and cursing, make the most of one of our potentially beautiful seasons.

Dress up

Why do you think Melbourne is known as Australia's fashion capital and attracts shoppers from all over the country? It's freezing and they have no choice but to dress up. Boots, scarves, stunning coats and jackets - Brisbane is really only cold for three and a half months of the year, so the fashion we see in cooler cities is not relevant for our sun drenched city. So when Winter arrives, make the most of style. Slip into knee high boots and skinny jeans. Purchase that coat from Ebay and feel like a million dollars.

Go Hiking

Brisbane is only a short distance to some of Queensland's loveliest mountain climbs. Only 31 kilometres North of Brisbane The Glasshouse Mountains offer natural beauty. Make the most of Winter and go hiking without the fear of snakes who thrive in our Summer and without having to take a change of clothes to slip into after all the sweating in thirty five degree heat. Don't forget to wear sunscreen - that winter sun can still burn.

Snuggle in a cabin

Located 90 minutes North of Brisbane City is the Glass House Mountains Ecolodge. With rooms and cabins to suit every budget, there is no better place to soak up the views of the mountains as the sun goes down and the cool night air sets in. After a day of exploring the tracks that start right at your door, cuddle up with a mug of hot chocolate in your insulated room. You can choose from a number of stunning rooms with a cosy feel. The Orchard Cabin has polished wooden floors and a deck with surrounding views to Mount Tibrogaran starting at $105 per night.

Go to the Beach

Whoever said the beach is reserved for Summer hasn't spent a day in the Winter sunshine with the sand between their toes. Winter can be the perfect time to relax at the beach without the harsh sun and uncomfortable burn. In winter, the sky is clear (most days), the breeze is crisp and the sun is divine. Pack a picnic, grab a book and step out of the shade and into our fantastic Winter rays.

Enjoy a Curry

Can you imagine alfresco dining and eating a delicious chicken curry in Summer? Winter is the Season to be Merry, which is why Europe and the States fill up on all things tasty and hot at Christmas. Make the most of our cold weather and eat the foods you can't enjoy in Summer. After all, you're wearing jeans and jackets all season so don't stress about the bulge. No one can see it. Brisbane is quickly becoming cafe savvy with plenty of restaurants popping up throughout the city monthly. Get out there and try a curry, soups and stir fries to warm you.

Go for a midday run

Day off work? Noticing a bit of a muffin top from all those curries? While the tracks are quiet and everyone else is working, slip into your trainers and tights and take on the pavement. The crisp breeze will be cold on the nose at first, but let the midday sun defrost your limbs. In Summer it is far too hot in the middle of the day to go for a run and who wants to get up before the sun every morning to beat the heat? Take advantage this Winter and look great without the sweat.

Cuddle at the Drive-in

What better time to get close to your partner than Winter? The Yatala Drive-in, approximately 35 minutes South of Brisbane City offers a fantastic way to check out the latest releases. Take the ute, throw in a mattress and blankets, grab the beanies and each other and make the most of the icy weather huddled up together under the stars. Check out the drive-in website for session times.

Winter doesn't have to be miserable and dreary. Winter means style, romantic getaways and long nights of cuddles.
