When most people hear the word vintage the first thought that usually springs to mind is old or out-dated. I prefer to liken the word to Kate Moss' fragrance 'Vintage' described as a fragrance with "fruity-floral character - opening with pink pepper, freesia and mandarin, jasmine, heliotrope and almond blossom and finishing with musk, vanilla and tonka". I heard Kate Moss is a big fan of vintage clothing and if you could put a description to the smell of vintage, I would have to liken it to her fragrance. Oh yes, I'm definitely a fan of the unique and original.
If you're swayed by the vintage and retro look, particularly from the Victorian period to the 1980's, keep your calendar free for the 28th and 29th of October, 2011 because the Brisbane Vintage Fashion and Décor Fair is set to ignite at the Eagle Farm Racecourse in Ascot.
As well as the usual array of vintage and retro clothing you'd expect to find, keep a lookout for the vintage linen, lace and textiles, parasols, figurines, books, sewing tools and patterns, jewellery, fragrance bottles, hatboxes, retro lamps, handbags and accessories, beaded evening bags, vintage shades and plenty of distinctive decorative items.
You'll find an alfresco cafe, bars and nightly entertainment will see you swinging to the The Calibre Cats and DJ Anthonne Shepherd.
Additionally ladies and gents, this is not a time to be shy. It's worth your while coming dressed to impress because the competition for the 'Best Dressed in Vintage' will be held on Friday night (28th October) at 7.15pm.
The Brisbane Vintage Fashion and Décor Fair is located one minute walk from the Ascot Railway Station or if you prefer to drive you can park for free on the Eagle Farm Racecourse grounds. It runs on Friday night, 28th October from 6pm to 10pm and Saturday, 29th October from 10am to 4pm.
Admission for adults is $10, Concession card holders and Pensioners pay $8 while children under 10 years of age are allowed free entry. Special two day passes are $15.
Old doesn't necessarily mean out-dated but if you don't want to take my word for it check out the fair at the end of October and see if you're not won over by the beauty of vintage.
