Explore the hidden terrain and small towns of south east Queensland with a trip along a recycled railway line.
The
is a track from Ipswich to Blackbutt that will reuse the old Brisbane Valley rail line. This line snakes down the western side of the Brisbane River through a variety of different landscapes and ecosystems.
The trail, which is due for completion in 2012, will measure 148 kilometres when completed and will be put to use by walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Motor vehicles are prohibited. The track provides a recreational path for users that will cut through farms, native forests, country towns and residential areas. Local businesses such as tour guides and accommodation providers will offer the necessary services and facilities along the way.
Sections of the trail, from Fernvale to Lowood and Linville to Blackbutt, are currently open. These sections service areas of interest like cemeteries, markets, heritage houses and native animal colonies. For more information, visit the
website to download the brochure on each section.
The is designed to preserve a piece of south east Queensland's past and to showcase the countryside and local character by providing pathways to explore the rural corners. The trail will begin in west Ipswich and connect to Fernvale, Lowood, Coominya, Esk, Toogoolawah, Harlin, Moore, Linville and up the Balfour Range to Benarkin before terminating in Blackbutt. Visitors can enter and exit the path at any point.
