It is a human characteristic to want what others have. Have you ever walked down the street, spotted something you liked on someone else and asked them where they got it because you love it and would like to get one just like it? Or have you ever thought of raiding your friend's wardrobe?

Well now you can boldly proclaim your love for someone else's clothes and claim it for yourself without scoring a nasty look in return. In fact, that person will gladly hand it over to you. No, it is not a fantasy from a movie – it is part and parcel of a swap meet.

If you are tired of your old clothes and want to swap them for something different, why not try some of the swapping events below:

1) AHM Fashion Exchange Brisbane

The Clothing Exchange is open to both men and women, enabling you to swap up to six garments or accessories with anything else which catch your eye. Avoid waste from clothing you no longer wear and make someone else happy, lightening your shopping bill at the same time. Held on Sunday, the 10th of November, admission is free but places are limited so you will need to pre-register at the website.

How it works:
a) You will need to drop off your clothes for a quality check between 10am to 12pm.
b) Receive a token for each item of clothing accepted.
c) The exchange starts from 12pm to 3pm at Lightspace Studios, 30 Light Street, Fortitude Valley.
d) Use your tokens to shop for your new clothes.
e) Go home, admire and model your new found clothes!

Clothing should be of good quality, washed and ironed. They should be free from faults or holes and would be something you would consider lending a friend.
2) Baby & Children's Swap – November 9

Come shop for your babies and children – everyone knows how quickly babies grow out of their clothes! Axis Church at the corner of Gardenia Parade and Discovery Drive, Northlakes is organising a baby and children clothes swap as a fund-raising initiative for Mercy International, a non-profit organisation helping underprivileged and disadvantaged children in Thailand. The clothes have to be good quality, between size 0 to size 6, washed and without any holes or stains. Entry is $5 and this gives you 5 pieces of clothing to take home and it costs $1 for each piece thereafter. Afternoon tea is provided.
2) The Online Option - SwapStyle

If you would like to swap your clothes from the comfort of your own home, you can sign up to Swapstyle. The winner of the news.com.au web2.0 Green Awards for 100% Green Sustainable Fashion, membership if free and you can swap worldwide. Save money and do your part for sustainable living.

How it works:
a) Go through your closet and take pictures of the items you want to swap
b) Upload the pictures
c) Browse member swaps from around the world
d) Send and receive swap negotiations
e) Agree on a swap and receive your new clothes
f) Place and receive feedback on your transaction
