From Brisbane City is an easy walk to the surrounding suburbs. The different time of the day and the change of seasons make the walks always interesting and different.

Starting at the Wheel of Brisbane at South Bank Parkland, the walk is about 6km, allow one hour and a half hours. The walk is very easy since it is mostly flat - you just need to have the level of fitness to walk for about 6 km. This walk includes a ride back by ferry from Sydney Street, New Farm, into Brisbane City.

The New Farm walk is regularly run by the Hiking South East Qld and More on Monday evenings. The walk can be done at any time of the day and in any season. You can start the walk at 5:30pm, moderate pace. For this walk, a map of Brisbane can be handy or download a good app on your smartphone that can help you to navigate the City.

Start to walk in South Brisbane towards the Maritime Museum. If you like you can stop by Epicurious, a garden made up of fruits, plants and herbs run by volunteers. The plants have a tag with their name and you can smell the herbs. Please do not pick the plants.

Walk towards the Goodwill Bridge, cross the bridge and you are on the northern end of the bridge. Here turn right and continue in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens along the Brisbane River, towards the Story Bridge.

Walk under the Story Bridge and into the new precinct of Howard Smith Wharves.

Turn into Riverview CT, right into Griffith Street and right into Sydney Street.

Walk into Sydney Street where we catch the Citycat (ferry) to North Quay.

Citycat is at 6:54pm and arrives at North Quay at 7:20pm (Fourth stop: Riverside, QUT, South Bank 2, North Quay).

You can have a casual dinner at Jackpot in 55 Elizabeth St, Brisbane City QLD 4000 or Kingsfood, Shop 2/266 George St, Brisbane City QLD 4000.

What to bring: bring with you a light backpack, good walking shoes or hiking boots, a light raincoat if necessary, water and a first aid kit.

It is very important to remain on the pedestrian sites of the walkways all the time and great care need to be taken when there are share paths and be very watchful for eager bike riders and scooters.

Directions: the best way to enter town is by train; South Brisbane Station is the most strategic stop, the Wheel of Brisbane is practically opposite the station.

King George Square carpark at 87 Roma St, Brisbane City QLD 4000, AFTER 4:30pm charge the night rate. Monday to Thursday 4.30pm to midnight: $5
