There is a wide range of mediums, techniques and styles on display. A condition of entry was that the artist and sitter had to have a connection to Brisbane. The sitters include a who's who of the Brisbane performing arts scene, as there is a prize specifically for subjects from the Performing Arts and Music Industries.

Lesser-known everyday Brisbanites are also subjects. Celebrated artists, including Michael Zavros, are competing with emerging artists for the prizes, totalling $80,000. Other categories include a Digital and People's Choice prize and a prize for Women artists. The overall prize is the Lord Mayor's Prize, supported by the Brisbane City Council. Prize winners will be announced October 10th.

The exhibition is free entry and runs till October 31st but try to get there before October 8th, so you can vote for the Courier-Mail People's Choice Award worth $7,500 for the winning artist.

There are also free guided tours of the exhibition running at 11.00am and 2.30pm each day, no booking required. Get along and support this inaugural award and important addition to the Brisbane art scene.
