Sweet things to come in 2016

Some little kids count down the days until Christmas; some big kids count down the days until Brisbane Open House. Well, here's good news for the latter. BOH for 2016 will be launched on August 24, so go to the website www.brisbaneopenhouse.com.au that very day to see what treats are in store for you on October 8 and 9! As usual, the old favourites will be on display, but if you have ticked them all off your bucket list, there are some new treats coming your way.

A new lease on life

One hundred buildings, the most ever, will unlock their doors to locals and tourists alike. They consist of private homes, historic landmarks, and significant institutional structures. Three interesting themes for this year are military history, medicine and science, and theatre and the arts something for everyone.

Brisbane's skyline is ever changing, sometimes to the regret of oldtimers like myself, but I still have an eye for an outstanding modern building, and one of these will give you a rare opportunity to visit spaces not usually open to the public. I am talking of the recently opened 480 Queen St, home to such high-profile businesses as BHP Billiton.

Old favourites such as Brisbane City Hall, The Windmill on Spring Hill, Newstead House and the Walter Taylor Bridge are also on the agenda.
