It surprises me that some folk don't know about the best jazz venue in Brisbane. It is none other than the
Brisbane Jazz Club, right across the Brisbane River from the city and easily accessible by car, or take the ferry from Eagle St Pier to Holman Street, and you are there!
The club, being right on the river, offers wonderful views across to the city at night, but inside is where the best action is. There are performances on Fridays and Saturdays, and some other nights, but you will need to check out the website for details of all programs.
The building started as a boat club back in 1930, and then spent some time as the Adventurers Club. You can read the history
here.
Meals are available (provided by nearby Story Bridge Hotel). Order your meal at the Jazz Club and hey presto, your meal appears.
The
2016 Brisbane Vocal Jazz Festival will be on from Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th August. It is a festival celebrating the jazz voice, and three generations of jazz singers.
Go to the
Brisbane Jazz Club website for all the details about upcoming performances, membership, and more.
The Club also encourages high school students to learn more about jazz at the fortnightly Jam Sessions on Saturday mornings. This program is for high school students only, who are in grades 9 – 12, and runs from 9 am to 11 am. Cost is $10 per student payable at the door. For more information go to the
website.
The Brisbane Jazz Club is also the venue for some of the performances for the International Jazz Festival. For more information click
