The second edition of Brisbane International Jazz Festival is here from Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 June.
With more than 20 exciting free and ticketed performances featuring top-notch international, interstate and local artists, there is definitely something for everyone.
Following a successful Festival in 2013, the 2014 Festival promises to be even bigger and better. Presented by Jazz Queensland, the Festival program comprises of diverse happenings include concerts, CD launches, world premieres of new works, workshops and jam sessions.
Venues include Brisbane Jazz Club, Jazz Upstairs, JMI Live, Kookaburra River Queens Paddlewheeler, Queen Street Mall, Queensland Multicultural Centre, The Bowery and The Point Brisbane.
International artists making an appearance are Jukka Perko - Avara Trio from Finland, saxophonist Julian Arguelles from the UK, and pianist Barney McAll from the USA. Other artists featured at the Festival include Mike Nock, Julien Wilson Quartet, Andrew Butt, Louise Denson, Sean Foran and Rafael Karlen.

The Festival opens with Queensland Week Jazz Composers World Premieres at the Queensland Multicultural Centre on Wednesday 4 June. You'll hear exciting works by award winning composers Andrew Butt, Louise Denson, Sean Foran and Rafal Karlen. This event is part of the Queensland Government's Queensland Week celebrations 31 May–8 June 2014.
Following this, you may want to head to The Bowery for Mall Wood and the Bowery Hot Five on Wednesday 4 June. This is a free event from 9.30pm so come along, soak up the sounds, and enjoy a yummy cocktail while you're at it.
If you're on a budget, there are other free events on the Queen Street Mall from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 June. These include Unison Sound System, Julian Arguelles with Trichotomy, Paula Girvan Quartet, Leigh Carriage Quartet, Gemma Turvey, Jeremy Rose and Jackson Harrison, Joshua Hatcher Quintet and Mick Nock's BigSmallBand. In addition, Le Breeze guitar duo at The Point Brisbane is another free event.
If you're after something vocal, then A Night of Diversity - Brisbane Jazz Singers Showcase presented by Ingrid James at Brisbane Jazz Club is perfect for you. Expect a stellar line-up with Brisbane's exceptional jazz vocalists on Thursday 5 June.

The Joshua Redman Quartet from the USA are not to be missed. The all-star quartet features Joshea Redman (saxophone), Aaron Goldberg (piano), Reuben Rogers (bass), and Gregory Hutchinson (drums). Witness the phenomenal skills and techniques these musicians possess in two concerts on Saturday 7 June at 7pm and 9.30pm.
If you fancy a relaxing Sunday on the Brisbane River then Sunday Jazz lunch river cruise with Paradise City Jazz Trio is perfect for you. Enjoy the jazzy vibes and soak up the view while feasting on a gorgeous buffet lunch.
The Festival closes with Brisbane's 17 piece Enthusiastic Musicians Orchestra featuring Julian Arguelles on Sunday 8 June from 6pm at Brisbane Jazz Club. Anticipate original compositions and the most exciting big band spectacular!
