Kicking off on Wednesday 29 May and running through until Thursday 6 June, enjoy nine days of live jazz music in Brisbane. Brought to you by Jazz Queensland, the Brisbane International Jazz Festival will feature international, interstate and local jazz acts, offering up free and ticketed events, to cover all jazz tastes and budgets. Some highlights from the festival are listed below.

On opening night, Wednesday 29 May, check out The Bowery Hot Five with Mal Wood, a free event from 9:30pm at The Bowery , 676 Ann St, Fortitude Valley. Enjoy a cocktail while you're there.

On Friday 31 May, from 5pm, Ewan McKenzie Trio will perform at the Turbine Platform. Ewan is well versed on guitar in a variety of genres and he'll bring the best of his jazz for you to enjoy an end-of-the-week drink from Bar Alto or Watt Restaurant and Bar at the Brisbane Powerhouse . Free entry, my tip is to arrive early to secure seating.

Another option for Friday 31 May is Rafael Karlen Quintet at the Brisbane Jazz Club , on the river at Kangaroo Point. A ticketed event ($25 / Conc, JQ & BJC Member: $20), Rafael is a jazz saxophonist and this event is not to be missed.

On Saturday, jazz lovers will be spoiled for choice. In the afternoon, Sydney's jazz / funk / reggae band The Vampires and Brisbane's own piano / drums / bass trio Trichotomy perform at Brisbane Powerhouse , in the evening Caxton Street Jazz Band perform at Brisbane Jazz Club .

Fancy Sunday brunch? Head to the Brisbane Jazz Club for Dale Barlow, a multi-instrumentalist who plays tenor saxophone, flute, and bass clarinet, who'll be joined by an international guest. Tickets are $25 plus brunch. Doors open at 9:30am. Or enjoy a chilled Sunday afternoon at the Brisbane Powerhouse , when Live Spark features Ella & Louis Project and local Lauren Lucille Duo.

Queen St Mall will feature live jazz on Friday evening (5pm-7:30pm), Saturday afternoon (12pm-3:45pm), Sunday lunchtime (11:30am-2:45pm). And for those jazz lovers who don't mind a mid-week night out, on Tuesday 4 June, Black Bear Lodge presents Jazz Party Tuesday, where you'll enjoy live jazz, with jazz on vinyl in between sets.

The full program is available online here , and ABC Jazz have four double-passes to give away. The competition closes on Sunday May 26, and you'll find more details online here .
