Meanwhile, let's get back to the prequel of the closing party. The Brisbane Festival has not yet begun, therefore, though we talk of the closing, surprise! You have 3 weeks of Festival itself to look forward to from 8-29 September 2018. Click here to go green and enjoy a digital version of the full program of exciting events. There's theatre, circus & physical theatre, music, dance, comedy & cabaret, visual art and special experiences, children and family events, and special spaces.

One of Australia's major international arts festival, it's embraced by the city and attracts an audience of around one million people every year. Check here for info on venue details, FAQs and booking tickets and Multi-tix. Before you head out, check here for road bridge and river closures.

Celebrate Brisbane River of Light every night of the festival from 6.30-9.30pm at the Cultural Forecourt, South Brisbane. This art-meets-technology water fountain, light and laser spectacular is a spellbinding celebration of our river that illuminates the night. it tells a traditional story of the dreaming serpent that wove the river into being and created the life blood of our city.

The program is brimming with big-name acts and more world premieres than ever. With almost 600 performances, 100 of them free, of almost 70 shows across 17 venues. More than a thousand artists are involved. Program highlights include two major Riverstage events bookending the Festival on Opening and Closing Night. In a first for this festival, the massive program is presented in three distinct acts; one for each of the three weeks of activity from 8-29 September.

Act 1 revolves around ideas of home, memory and gender. Act 2 casts the individual against the giant forces of nature, fate and society, in thrilling expressions of circus, dance and music. In its final week, Act 3 delivers a fierce and fun climax, including a mind-bending scary movie homage. The 22-day celebration crescendos Saturday 29 September with Brisbane's much-loved fireworks celebration Sunsuper Riverfire igniting the city skyline for its 21st anniversary year. This year's super fun soundtrack is themed on Sci-Fi and Superheroes.

With so much going on, the program is the best place to start earmarking events you don't want to miss. Check the website for all details, and stay in touch on the Facebook page is a good place to follow the conversation and check for updates.
