The word Spiegeltent is Dutch for 'mirror' tent and currently King George Square, Brisbane is home to The Courier Mail Spiegeltent as part of the Brisbane Festival 2011.

A Spiegeltent is a large travelling tent, constructed out of wood and canvas and decorated with mirrors and stained glass.

These tents were intended as traveling entertainment venues, especially popular in small towns small that didn't have a hall for such social activities. Spiegeltents were originally built in Belgium during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Only a handful of these remain in existence today, and these survivors continue to travel around Europe and beyond, often as a feature attraction at various international arts festivals.
