My early career was in teaching, writing, producing and directing for theatre, comedy and impro shows. Now I'm a professional creative person. Mostly high-end branding, strategy, writing, editing and digital content creation.
Fresh New Music for Your Ears

The Saints, Powderfinger, Regurgitator, Bee Gees, Savage Garden, The Grates, The Veronicas – the list of successful musicians out of Brisbane is huge and covers every genre you can mention. But where do these artists get their breaks into the music scene? Competitions and supportive local venues can help, but one of the best experiences for a muso with a burgeoning career is a showcase like the inaugural Brisbane Emerging Artist Showcase.

Amy Currie, co-host of The Brisbane Emerging Artist Showcase

The brainchild of Pete J Irving, The Brisbane Emerging Artist Showcase is giving new talents John Keenan, Savannah Tindiglia, Georgia Mae, Alpha Pi and Upsize a chance to share their great music with a crowd of soon to be adoring fans at The Triffid in Fortitude Valley. One of the co-hosts of the show, improviser and comedian Amy Currie told me the acts on the bill cover genres from quirky electro-pop to dirty oz rock.

"We're fortunate because we've got quite a good mix – everything from acoustic to electro-pop," Amy revealed, "and then of course we've got Upsize with the dirty Oz rock."

Amy and co-host Pete J Irving will be adding a touch of humour to the show, engaging the acts in mini interviews and banter, so you'll not just hear them play, but also get to know a little about the acts on stage too.

"We're hoping to be a bit conversational, a bit fun," says Amy, "Something a little different to the usual showcases."

With so much talent on the bill, tickets are already selling fast. So while you can take your chances at trying to grab a ticket at the door on Thursday, 17 December, you're better off booking here to avoid missing out.
