Borrow library books safely
Books became great companions for many during the lockdown and council libraries saw long queues of visitors stocking up on stories to pass the time in isolation. Sadly, during lockdown council libraries closed.

But all of that has changed. Now as the curve has flattened and the restrictions lifted, all 33 council libraries re-opened from Saturday 16 May 2020.

They opened with a couple of changes including:
  • 10-person limit due to State Government regulations.
  • Visitors can return borrowed items through after-hours returns chutes.
  • Pick up items on hold when ready for collection.

Of course, social distancing is still encouraged and personal hygiene practices maintained. During this time, no hold fees apply for borrowings.

Council urges residents to continue using online library services where possible to avoid long queues and delays. All current and new loans are due for return on 30 June 2020.

The libraries reopen with their regular opening hours. The Brisbane Square Library though will close at 6pm on Wednesdays and 7pm on Fridays (instead of midnight on these days).
