[SECTION]Big Community Day Out[/SECTION]
The Endeavour Foundation does amazing work in our community and are foremost in the field of enriching the lives of people living with a disability. After the success of their first
Big Community Day Out in 2011, Endeavour is once again graciously treating the community to a day of free entertainment and fun activities, in an effort to say thank you for the ongoing support of their work.
The family friendly event will happen at Southbank's beautiful Cultural Forecourt; weather permitting, it sounds like a glorious way to spend a Spring day. So bring a picnic blanket and relax on the grass, soaking up some sun and the sounds of live music by the river. Wander the market stalls and indulge at one of the international food stalls.
There is a host of activities on offer to entertain the kids including face painting, magicians, fire show, animal petting zoo, a jumping castle, rock climbing wall and stilt walkers. Live entertainment will be provided by local Brisbane talent including rock band
Red on Red, gypsy duo
Free Like Me, the
Street Groove Hiphop Dance Circle and the
Fun With Drums Group. Football celebrity Richard Champion and Ten news presenter Bill McDonald will appear as guest MCs.

[SECTION]The Great Brisbane Duck Race[/SECTION]
The iconic and visually exciting
Great Brisbane Duck Race is back for its 6th year (the mammoth yellow duck currently residing in the river at Portside may have been a giveaway).
Join thousands of people along the banks of the beautiful Brisbane River to witness 30,000 bright yellow plastic ducks being dumped into the water for the racing spectacle, which comprises of Team Duck Race Challenges and the Great Race itself.
For your chance to be the owner of the fastest duck and win yourself a brand new car, visit the

tickets ($5), or groups ranging from a family of 6 ($25) up to a flotilla of 100 ($300). Or for some real fun, you can form a team to participate on the day in the Team Duck Race Challenges (motorised and non-motorised races). All funds raised go toward cancer research at the esteemed Princess Alexandra Hospital, the institution responsible for the world's first cancer vaccine.
Organisers have ensured a day of fun for the whole family with rides, an animal farm, face-painting and free entertainment; so get the family out to enjoy a day of fun for a worthy cause.

[SECTION]Brisbane Zombie Walk [/SECTION]
Get your gore on people, the
Brisbane Zombie Walk is back to terrorise the streets of Brisbane. This incredibly unique charity event began in 2007, and in 2009 affiliated with the Brain Foundation of Australia. Participants have increased exponentially since its inauguration with between fifteen and twenty thousand zombies joining the walk in 2011, raising in excess of $24,000.
Following the success of recent years, organisers have extended the event into a whole day of flesh eating festivities with the Apocalypse Undead Festival. Live music and market stalls will rock Victoria Park until 10.00pm. The walk itself will begin at 3.00pm and meander through the streets of Brisbane's CBD, eventually returning to the festival site.
It is free to participate in the walk but gold coin donations are encouraged; there is an entry fee to the festival with all funds raised going to the Brain Foundation of Australia. For details on ways to assist in raising much needed funds, check out the

[SECTION]Valley Fiesta[/SECTION]
The mother of free music festivals is back with an exciting and diverse music and arts program, spanning a mega three days. The beloved
Valley Fiesta features three outdoor stages and a panoply of
free performances across multiple genres.
In addition to the
free entertainment , a bevy of
ticketed events will be held at 35 of the valley's venues including The Zoo, Cloudland and the Judith Wright Centre.
Brisbane City Council has outdone itself this year with American old school funksters
Arrested Development headlining the festival on Saturday 27th October as part of their 20th Anniversary Tour. BCC has also initiated a 'Local Love' competition, affording one local band and DJ the opportunity to perform at the Fiesta; the public can vote for their favourite entrant via the
Fiesta's Facebook page (voting opens 1st October and closes 15th October).
A special feature of the festival is the Sunday jazz and blues program in the Chinatown mall, where one can be soothed by the sweet, soulful sounds of
The Caxton St Jazz Band,
The View from Madeline's Couch and
The Souls Almighty, amongst others. Sunday's festival program will also showcase a selected number of Queensland Music Award winners.

Cost: Free public outdoor stages plus ticketed events at various Valley venues.
[SECTION]Special Mention: Black Stump Animation Festival[/SECTION]
The
Black Stump Animation Festival will be held in conjunction with a street fair on Sunday 7th October at Nash St, Rosalie Village.
The free street fair will run from 10.00am - 4.00pm and feature markets, live music, a Spring fashion show, art and cooking workshops and children's entertainment including an animal petting zoo, jumbo slide and jumping castle.
The animation films will run all day in the Blue Room Cinebar, as will the evening Gala screening of the award winners;
tickets can be purchased online.
As part of the festival, there will be a series of
kids animation workshops in the last week of the school holidays from 1st - 5th October.
