There is a new way to see Brisbane's sights and have your own adventure any time of the day. Thanks to an Australian-designed story app, a bit like a choose your own adventure novel, you can walk Brisbane's streets, visit it's nooks and crannies while placing yourself directly into a fictional adventure.

Street Reads is a completely new way of telling a story and seeing the city. The reader is placed directly into the adventure by using real city locations as the canvas for the digital storytelling experience. Simply by downloading the free app onto your mobile phone or tablet, readers will find themselves swept into a story where they are in control. As readers make the decisions that will effect how the story ends, they also travel a unique path through the suburbs of Brisbane.

You can choose to participate in two ways. Once the app is downloaded and you have your location services turned on, choose your story and make your way to the start position. The app will register your position and the audio track for the story will run. (Headphones recommended if you want to avoid suspicious looks from other members of the public!) You can also choose to switch the audio off and simply read the text. As you follow the directions and approach your next position, the next part of the story will run. A map of where you are is also included.

Local authors have been carefully coached in how to make sure that the story is entertaining and includes the historical and current features of the area, often pointing out little know facts and sights as part of the story line. Each Street Read takes approximately half an hour to complete and the stops are in easy walking distance, making them ideal for all ages and activity levels to participate in.
