Forget the boring chore of walking through your neighbourhood streets. The Brisbane City Council organise free walking tours for residents aged 50 years and over through their GOLD (Growing Older and Living Dangerous) program.

Located in Brisbane City and Toowong, their unique walking tours have been designed to provide seniors with a creative and enjoyable way of exercising both the mind and body. Each tour is completely free of charge for anyone aged 50 years or over.

Botanic Gardens – Mt Coot-tha Rd, Toowong
Discover the rich and exotic plant life as you enjoy a guided walk through the Botanic Gardens located at Toowong. Situated on 52 hectares, the garden features several attractions including the Japanese and scented gardens, waterfalls and "the largest collection of Australian native rainforest trees in the world". The tour meets at the Botanic Gardens information centre located on Mt Coot-tha Road, Toowong (days and times displayed below).

Botanic Gardens – Alice Street, Brisbane City
Stroll through Brisbane's original Botanic Gardens located on the riverside only ten minutes from the city centre. These gardens are home to a magnificent display of flower and plant life and feature a large array of attractions such as the " Bamboo Grove, Weeping Fig Avenue, Mangrove Boardwalk and ornamental ponds ". Walking tours meet at the Rotunda near the Albert Street entrance, Brisbane City.

WHEN
Each walking tour operates two days per week, Monday and Saturday from 11am to 12pm and 1pm to 2pm. Bookings are not required so if you enjoy walking as a form of exercise or just for fun why not attend both and compare the attractions of each botanical garden?

There are several benefits for joining or participating in a walking tour.
** Meet new friends and/or socialise with your current pals.
** Enjoy a relaxed and entertaining form of exercising both your mind and body.
** Discover new and exotic plant life.
** View the many attractions that each Botanic Garden has to offer.
** Explore the surrounding parkland areas of Brisbane City.

If you would like more information about each walking tour you can pick up a free copy of the GOLD program at your local Brisbane City Council Library , Ward office or at one of the Brisbane City Council Service Centres . Alternatively, download a GOLD program brochure online or phone the Council directly on (07) 3403 8888.
