The 4KQ Christmas Lights Competition is unbelievably in its 27th year. Houses compete for coveted prizes and you can share in the spectacle because Brisbane City Council runs Xmas Light Tours around the city. It was only last year that I came across it, being relatively new to Brisbane, and what a fun evening it was. So I am giving you some advance warning of the council's Christmas lights tours this year, so you can book your tickets and enjoy the light fantastic around your side of Brisbane, or even on the far side. This year the bus tours will run to some of the winning entries of the competition from Monday the 14th December to Friday the 18th.

It seems there is never a shortage of houses that want to take part in this competition and when you travel around you see how much time, effort and passion goes into putting on these displays, which we can all enjoy on these tours.

Apparently last year there were over 90 bus tours and if last year's numbers are anything to go by this year will be even more popular. Tours run for about three hours, with buses departing at 6.45pm from the following bus stops:
& #9642 ; Ann Street, City Anzac Square – northern, southern, and western suburbs
& #9642 ; Carindale Shopping Centre – eastern suburbs only
& #9642 ; Garden City Shopping Centre – southern suburbs only
& #9642 ; Indooroopilly Shopping Centre – western suburbs only
& #9642 ; Chermside Shopping Centre – northern suburbs only

Tickets go on sale on Monday, 18 November, and must be pre-purchased through Ticketek and cannot be bought at the 'bus door'.

The tour cost is $22 for adults, $11 for pensioners and children, $11 for full-time students and $50 for families with two adults and two children, plus transaction fees. The two children's tickets can be substituted for any two patrons entitled to a concession fare. Alternatively, one of the two adult tickets can also be substituted for another concession fare.

The buses are decorated with Xmas garlands and stuffed animals and Xmas carols are piped out. The bus snakes in and out of streets in well-known suburbs to give us the full enjoyment of all the houses on display. The bus stops at selected points along the route to allow you to take pictures and walk around the displays. There may even be a surprise visit from Santa.

In this lead up to Xmas where downtime is at a premium and stress levels are high this is just the kind of blissful event that the whole family can enjoy in the evening and the most that you are called to do is to get on and off a bus. Now how hard can that be as you look out in amazement at the beautiful Xmas lights and displays around the city.
