Bao down to these delicious deals

What do you get when you sandwich hearty ingredients between a fluffy cloud of dough? The most delicious Asian street snack you can get your hands on, that's what.

Light, easy to eat, and very filling, the greatest thing about bao is that they're usually so cheap that you don't have to wait for a special day or a special deal. Here are some of the best and cheapest our fair town has to offer.

Same Same (Shop AM3 Ada Lane, 46 James Street, Fortitude Valley) calls itself an 'elegant take on street-inspired Thai food' and their menu certainly backs up that claim. Nestled amongst the dumplings, burgers and larbs on their snack menu is a soft-shelled crap bao bun with hot and sour dressing. It's the perfect lunch or drunk snack at just $12.

At Mr Mista (757 Ann Street, Fortitude Valley), an LA-Asian fusion bar and restaurant, diners can choose from a selection of bao buns and sliders, all for $10 or less. Grab a classic katsu for $10 or a vegetarian mushroom for $8. If you're feeling adventurous, the tropical bao slider - more Queensland-Asian fusion with karaage chicken and caramelised pineapple - is $8.50.

Oh Boy Bok Choy (264 Stafford Road, Stafford) gives its customers even more choice with a make your own (MYO) bao bun option. Protein bases include pork, tempura prawn and mushroom, which are then served with a pickled salad, vegetables and dressings. The MYO bao buns is a dinner-sized portion, with four bao buns to a serve, and prices ranging from $20 - $28.

Do it for the 'gram at Ping Pong (Gasworks Shopping Centre, 76 Skyring Terrace, Newstead), a hugely photogenic pink paradise where 'the ingredients are fresh, the food is hot and the vibes are cool'. Cheap too - get a sriracha chicken or panko mushroom bao for only $7, the cheapest on this list.
