For fans of lathered slow cooked sustenance, its time to celebrate the grill in all its glory. The inaugural Brisbane BBQ festival is set to release smoked and spiced scents into the air over South Bank this July.


For slow cooked pork, ribs, brisket, steaks that are charred just the way you like it, get ready for a food baby as it's an all-day eating affair as meats are cooked over a long period at low temperatures. Brisbane's first Low and Slow BBQ Festival will capitalise on the growing food trend of southern US smoked goodness that has taken over the food truck and casual dining scene in the last few years.

If you're keen to hone your own skills on the grills, there will be plenty of demonstrations from the professionals on the day including The Makers Club Workshops. Learn how to smoke your meats to perfection, pickle and preserve pork and other cuts, and learn the nose to tail cooking philosophy so none of the pig or animal is waste. All this in addition to discovering so much more about the art of barbecuing that you never knew until now.



Major exhibitors will battle it out to become champions of the 'low and slow' cooking method and visitor will reap the fruits of their labour, with plenty of samples to be devoured. Thanks to the Wandering Cooks (a commercial kitchens incubator for budding culinary entrepreneurs), there will also be a range of market style stalls on the day. Think condiments galore to marinade your meats, BBQ accessories for optimum preparation, grilling and serving, plus many other products so you can become the master of the backyard BBQ in your neighbourhood.

Of course you can't feast without something to wash it all down, and a licensed bar will be serving up a bourbon to go with your spareribs and a brewski to go with your brisket.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Cutloose who boasts skills on the grill as well as the turntables (check out the video of him below.) Watch him apply the same enthusiasm and finesse to the chopping board and hot plate as he does to the turntables as he puts on one of his high energy 'CUT AND COOK' shows, whipping up a cooking storm all in time with his very own beats.



Mark this one in your calendar. This is a hotly anticipated event and is sure to take Southbank by storm. At the time of writing the BBQ festival is free entry, however according to the Event's Facebook Page a ticketed event "may be implemented due to high demand" and to "offer a bigger and better festival, less bottlenecks, controlled capacity and a guarantee of entry."
