Every year in Brisbane there are many families who are unlikely to have a Merry Christmas due to financial hardship. This is where the Brisbane Basket Brigade comes in, gathering and sending out boxes of presents and food to needy families in Brisbane. You can help by donating, volunteering or delivery driving.

The Brisbane Basket Brigade work with a number of agencies around Brisbane to identify families in need. These families are often struggling financially. While they have enough to survive, Christmas can be a real struggle, trying to buy presents and put together a Christmas dinner. Brisbane Basket Brigade does what it can to make Christmas special for those in need.

Food packages are put together from various businesses around Brisbane. They include some real basics, such as peas, beans, ham, chips and soft drink. Many people donate a wide range of food including a number of little luxuries. But every little bit helps for a family to put together a feast on Christmas day.

They also collect presents of all kinds. Some come from organisations who donate the gifts, others are bought with charity donations and more yet are given by individuals. Just a quick note on presents. They need ones for all ages and genders. For some reason donors tend to focus on presents for young boys.

You can still donate food and gifts now . They area a number of collection and drop off points around Brisbane. This will continue until the end of November. You can also drop them off in on packing day on December 10 at St Flannan's Catholic Church in Zillmere.

You can also volunteer to help pack presents and food as well as delivering them to families across Brisbane. This occurs on December 11 at St Flannan's Catholic Parish School in Zillmere. When it comes to delivering packages, you sign up to deliver them in your local area, so it is fairly convenient.

To volunteer, go to their website . They also need volunteers on the day before to help pick up food and gifts from various locations.
