Brisbane Arcade was built in 1923 and is one of the landmarks of the city and a heritage listed building. There is a story behind this arcade and if anyone is interested in finding out more read the "Mayne Inheritance" by Rosamund Siemon.
Two of the Mayne children, Dr James O'Neil Mayne and Miss Mary Emelia Mayne engaged architect Richard Gailey Jnr to design Brisbane Arcade. All the proceeds earned by the arcade are managed by a Trust and they go to benefit Queensland Medical School and medical research, a tradition which continues today. Early tenants include S Knowles and Sons Jewellers, George E Adams Cake Shop, Searls Florists, Eastern Art Salons and Charles Sweida Hair and Beauty Salon.
The arcade is transformed with the arrival of Spring and this is an event not to be missed. The Spring flower show will be on from the 31st of August to the 6th of September 2017 and is free for all to admire.
