On 6th September 1859, Brisbane was officially declared a separate city to our southern rival, Sydney. On Sunday 6th September 2009 join in the festivities at The City Botanic Gardens, Goodwill Bridge and South Bank Parklands as Brisbane celebrates its 150th birthday.

The day kicks off with an indigenous welcome and fire ceremony at 10am in the City Botanic Gardens followed by the official opening by Lord Mayor Campbell Newman. The City Botanic Gardens will then host the Gardens of Origin display from 11am.

The North/South Brisbane River lifestyle debate will occur at 11am on the Goodwill Bridge - enjoy hearing the opinions of celebrities to finally decide whether it is nicest on the northside or if life is sweeter on the southside.

Over at South Bank Parklands, the 150th birthday celebrations will recognise Brisbane's diverse modern culture with food and entertainment from around the globe in the Multicultural Forecourt. Live performances by big bands and barbershop singers will take place throughout the day at the South Bank Piazza.

Kids (and big Kids) will have the opportunity to meet their sporting heroes with stars from the Broncos, Brisbane Roar, Brisbane Lions, swimmers and other sports signing autographs at Picnic Island, South Bank. If the thought of all this activity makes you hungry, buy a sausage from the Rotary and Lions supplied charity sausage sizzle.

At 3pm, Riverstage will come alive with a concert to showcase Brisbane's musical talent featuring The Gin Club, Intercooler and lead act The Cat Empire.
