is a celebration filled with colour and light, as East meets West. Marking Chinese Lunar New Year and the Year of the Rooster, everyone is welcome to attend over eighty multicultural events taking place across Brisbane's suburbs for three weeks, from Friday 27th, January until Sunday 19th, February, 2017.

Year of The Rooster - 28/1/17:

The BrisAsia Festival begins on Saturday, January 28th (5 - 10pm), with a bang in Chinatown Mall and the celebrations to welcome in the new year. There will be market stalls, interactive workshops, fire shows, traditional music, cultural performances, roving street performers and a Chinese New Year parade.

On Friday, 27th January, there is an option to begin your day at 5am with peaceful Tibetan chanting, followed by a guided yoga class at South Bank's Cultural Forecourt. Alternatively, ou might like to experience Cargo Club at Metro Arts Theatre, or participate in Gallery of Modern Art's (GOMA's) Asian Art Snapshot Tours and a Modern Songstress Film Series featuring Hong Kong films. There are also lantern parades, shakuhachi performances and kite making in Roma Street Parklands.

This year, Neon Pop (Friday, February 3rd, 5 - 10pm) will return as a highlight of the festival. This is an entertaining evening where music, anime and cosplay collide at SunPAC, Macgregor. Get your chopsticks ready for Taste of Asia (Friday, February 10th, 12 - 7pm) in King George Square - a unique part of the festival where you can try all different types of international cuisine. Or perhaps it's time to upgrade your culinary skills at one of the free cooking classes being offered at several Brisbane City Council libraries. Or learn the ancient art of tai chi, karate, or qigong at one of the outdoor park venues during the BrisAsia Festival.

A series of Food Discovery Tours will take place in Sunnybank Plaza during the BrisAsia Festival. Hosted by Tony Ching, the tour visits local supermarkets and restaurants, learning tips about choosing the best quality produce and unusual ingredients, and concludes with a delicious Asian meal. Bookings ($50pp) are essential at Experience Sunnybank .
