Taking Cheerleading to new heights

"I'm sexy, I'm cute! I'm popular to boot! I'm bitchin', great hair! The boys all love to stare!"

If you are a GenY, or parent of, you most likely know all the lyrics to this catchy cheer from the popular cheerleading moving from year 2000 staring Kirsten Dunst! I can tell you when I was a teen I loved 'Bring It On'. The catty teenage angst seemed all too relatable, even if I wasn't American and cheerleading hadn't really hit Australia at that point. So, as you can imagine, when I was asked to review Bring It On: The Musical I did not hesitate to say yes!

The original Broadway show produced and directed by Andy Blankenbuehler is brought to South Australia by Pelican Productions this May. Based on the motion picture, this musical takes cheerleading to a whole other level, reaching new heights. Follow Campbell Davis (Scarlett Anthony) as she embarks on her lifelong dream of winning the Cheerleading Nationals. With a cast ranging from 9 years to 20 years, the talent and skill shown is nothing but extraordinary.

An incredibly entertaining show, with many laughs to be had. If you're expecting the original plot of the film however you may be disappointed. Regardless I'm sure you will leave this show in awe at the talent and may just develop a secret need for a sparkly outfit.. or maybe that was just me?
