An annual event, the 2013 Adelaide Airport Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures commences 23rd January 2013 and concludes 3rd February 2013 (refer to website for opening times to view indoor sculpture exhibits).

This free community event was inspired by Brighton Surf Life Saving members experiencing similar events at Bondi Beach and Western Australia's Cottesloe Beach.

A range of exhibits are displayed inside Brighton Surf Life Saving Club's welcoming upstairs spacious club room (a lift operates for those with restricted mobility/requiring wheelchair/pram friendly access).

The Brighton Surf Life Saving Club is located along the Esplanade at Brighton just south of Brighton Jetty and adjacent to Bindarra Reserve. Bindarra Reserve is a public reserve which has hygienic public toilets, sparkling cleaning barbeques and a wonderful kids playground. Plenty of shade, shelter and grassed areas abound.

Outdoor sculptures can be viewed at different locations around Bindarra Reserve and the "Sculptures Walk" (walk along the paved foreshore and view the sculptures installed for the duration of the event from Brighton Jetty to just south of the Brighton Surf Life Saving Club).

This event is both an exhibition and a competition. We visited on 27th January, when the winners had been announced. There were some fantastic sculptures many of which had been sold. Amongst our favourites are Chris Murphy's mind blowing Tiki Pizza Oven & Space Pizza Oven. Most sculptures are environmentally mindful, comprised of recycled and natural material.

Categories and prizes are awarded to: Outdoor Sculpture; Indoor Sculpture; Young Artist (15-26 years); Emerging Artist; Environmental Awareness and runners up for each of these categories.

This year sees a whopping 118 quality entries by SA artists, many of whom are local to the area.

The event is timed to conclude on Sunday, 3rd February 2013, when Brighton Surf Life Saving Club's 2013 Channel 7 Brighton Jetty Classic is held comprising a variety of swim events held at Brighton beach, between Brighton Surf Life Saving Club and Brighton Jetty.
