I enjoy writing about Adelaide and its many attractions. If you think Adelaide is boring,
the problem is not with Adelaide.

Brick by Brick - Build Your Own Capital Exhibition is a free travelling show that gives children the opportunity to build their own national capital using Lego bricks during the school holidays. If building an entire capital is a little too challenging for the kids, there are detailed instructions available on how to build one of our capital's national institutions. The interactive exhibition is being held in Adelaide at the State Library of South Australia on North Terrace.
With over 30 000 Lego (TM) bricks to play with, the possibilities are limited by your imagination and how much time is available. The exhibition originates from the National Capital Authority, with the intention of making its attractions better known. Canberra is home to many iconic buildings and structures, from well known landmarks such as Parliament House, the Australian Academy of Science, Australian War Memorial, and the uniquely melodic National Carillon.

But the emphasis at the State Library of South Australia is all about having fun and being creative, so making a model of Adelaide instead is definitely an option. Or maybe pick an Adelaide landmark like the SA Health & Medical Research Institute, commonly known as "the cheese grater".
Brick by Brick - Build Your Own Capital is being held at the State Library of South Australia from January 16 to March 19 2014, so there will be plenty of opportunities for children to have a go (or more than one) at building something. The event is free, but prior bookings are essential due to the limited places available. Call 8207 7292 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to secure a spot for your kids, and please be aware that carers must remain with children at all times.
Everyone is encouraged to share photos of their completed designs, either on Instagram (#brickbybrick), Twitter (@nca_media) or Facebook. Be sure to check out what other people have been creating too!
More information about Brick by Brick - Build Your Own Capital is on the State Library website here. If you're on Facebook you can find out about the exhibition here. Given the hot temperatures we get in Adelaide early in the year, it's a cool chance to escape the heat and enjoy some indoors time.
